Over 30 European leaders of the national JCI Organizations gathered for the three days long European Presidents Meeting (EPM) in the Moldovan capital Chişinău last week. The goal of the Meeting is to align their plans on how to make a change for the better for young people all over Europe. The EPM was led by JCI Europe Chair Marion de Groot from the Netherlands.

Even JCI President Itai Manyere from Zimbabwe attended the EPM to exchange on his plan of action and to gain more insights of the Europe area.
The vision of JCI is to be the leading global network of young active citizens. This means to be the biggest youth network but also to be the one that takes the first step to address the important topics of our time.

For the alignment of the JCI Europe forces, special focus was put on the topics marketing strategy, highlighting of extraordinary engagement through awards, integration of the alumni, corporate partnership extension and growth & development activities.
Furthermore the first 2020 Assembly took place. During that the National Presidents decided to create a taskforce to develop ideas to better take advantage of the network for business opportunities.

While being in Chişinău for the European Presidents Meeting, the participants also learned more about Moldova:
Moldova is a wine country that exports ca. 1.5 million hectolitres of wine every year. This represents 2% of the world wide wine exports. The evening programme included a visit of the modern production of the well-known winery “Cricova” and the amazing wine collection of rare and old wines beginning from 1902. The fact that Moldova is the least visited country in Europe, was a surprise to the participants. The hosts provided a very well organised event with lots of hospitality, great food and additional touristic tours.

#BridgeTheGap

With its events like the European Presidents meeting, JCI wants to bridge knowledge gaps. So these events often take place in areas that don’t get the same (touristic/international media) attention as i.e. London, Paris or Berlin.
Following the motto of 2020 JCI President Itai #BridgeTheGap, the almost 100 participants also bridged a social gap and raised money during the festive gala evening to support Moldovan families and the education of their children.

JCI focuses on 4 areas of opportunities for its members: Personal Development, International Collaboration, Business Opportunities and Community Development. So all of them are addressed in the activities of the National and Local Organizations.
With the principle of “one year to lead” JCI is an organization that well educates leadership.
To explain it in the words of the 2019 JCI President Alexander Tio: “JCI is not a charity organization, nor a political party, nor fully a business organization, but a leadership organization.”
This also shows the JCI tagline “Developing leaders for a changing world”.

The next meeting of the European National Presidents is during the European Conference in Dublin from 27th-30th of May. The programme of the European Conference offers keynotes, workshops and training courses related to the theme “Engagement, Employment, Empowerment”. All people can register.
